Luscious Lashes?

I've been fascinated by Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System. But $35 for a product that you're supposed to toss at the 3-month mark? I don't think so. Then I stumbled up this: Essence Volumizing Lash Power for.....less.than.$4...WHAT!?

Though I haven't shelled out the moolah for the Too Faced product, the Essence powder looks pretty similar to the nylon extension portion of the system (I've played with it a Sephora). The major difference, aside from the cost, is that the Essence product come in a jar rather than a tube. The pro is that you get more product with Essence. The con is that it's a little tricky to pick up on the spoolie, which is included, and apply.

The way to apply this product is to apply 1 coat of mascara, the apply a coat of the fibers/powder before that first coat of mascara dries, then apply a 2nd coat of mascara to seal the deal- basically making a lash powder sandwich. Here's me with one eye done:

You can sorta see the difference between my "done" eye and my "undone" eye. It's not as dramatic as I was thinking it would be but it does create longer lashes. I don't see a huge difference between using the Essence powder and those fiber mascaras that have come out at the drugstore over the last year or two (I'm looking at you L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes), except that the application process is messier and more time-consuming.

Here's both eyes done. I used Cover Girl Clump Crusher Mascara as my sandwich-ing mascara. I bet I'd be able to achieve a more dramatic effect with a heavier formula mascara such L'Oreal Million Lashes Voluminous Power Volume 24 Hour Mascara. Oh the possibilities.

Love,
Michele

  1. Interesting... I got a sample from Sephora that I think are called "They're real". Or something like that. (I will look when home). So far, its the best I've found. Very little smudging. I use it sparingly, but love it when I do!
